Presidente InterContinental Cozumel, Mexico
Emma and her parents have been visiting the island of Cozumel in the Riviera Maya Mexico for years. They are avid divers and the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel has been their home away from home as it's just perfect for diving and enjoying the Caribbean sun. I had the pleasure of capturing Emma as she was entering her final year of highschool to shoot some unique Senior Portraits while they were on vacation and we had a blast!
Flash forward 7 years and Emma has graduated both highschool and college, is now a school teacher herself, and has now found her forever human! Michelle, her lovely mom, and husband Scott, reached out as they were coming on vacation again and Emma's beau of more than 2 years had asked if he could propose while they were visiting one of Emma's favorite places in the world, and if they would help organize the secret delivery of the rose?
With the wonderful help of the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel's amazing events planning department, the plan was set. I would come back to capture family portraits, we'd walk the property under the guise of just updating the family's photo albums and the Resort would set on a private beach the perfect intimate space for Eric to get down on bended knee and surprise Emma. She had no idea!
The day was lovely, the sun was out, and a storm was brewing. We traversed the property revisiting some of the gorgeous spaces that provided a great backdrop to her Senior Portraits Session from 2017 and keeping up the rouse that we were just capturing a few family portraits. About half way through, as she and Eric were lounging in a hammock, she thought she had caught on and even cracked to Eric while showing her empty ring finger - is this just family portraits or are you going to propose? He played it off like a champ and carried on.
Even as we approached the private beach, Emma wasn't catching on until she was right upon it! The space was perfect, her reaction was priceless, her gorgeous ring from Winks in Brookings, South Dakota was stunning and of course, she said yes!
Emma + Eric, I wish you a life full of laughter and joy seeking. May you find the strength to always communicate, even the hard stuff. Keep exploring the world within and beyond, your lives together are just getting started, but as your folks can tell you, life is short - just keep saying yes and the road will unfold before you. Life is a series of moments and you get to choose how you see them, be happy for those moments as they are and will continue to be your life!
