Alicia + Family Maternity Portraits
El Cuyo, Yucatan, Mexico
When I found out that a girlfriend I knew from the old dog park in Playa del Carmen had moved to El Cuyo (my new favorite little corner of paradise 2 hours from home) and opened up a little hotel with her hubby and were getting ready to expand their family once more, I couldn't wait to get there and shoot her gorgeous belly.
Their hotel, the Ah Muzenkab, is a beautiful 8 room hotel just a block off the beach in the heart of El Cuyo. They have a gorgeous pool, ample rooms with great amenities, local breakfast and coffee for the early risers, and is just a short 5 minute walk to the town central where you'll find amazing restaurants like Zapote and Naia.
Alicia, 8 months pregnant with a baby girl was up for anything for her Maternity Portraits so I brought the amazing makeup artist and stylist Selene Ibarra of GlowIt and the ever amazing Ches Pizzini of Quetzal Photo to come have some fun on the beach. We wanted to have two distinct looks: a more classic natural look where she just glowed as the radiant goddess she is, but also a second look to pay homage to her Mexican Heritage and honor the Maya Goddess Ixchel - diosa of the moon, love, gestation, medicine, and the textile arts.
Accompanied by her wonderful musician husband Ulices, their effervescent son Pablo and sweet golden retriever Nala, we played on the beach, explored the green mangroves of the Yucatan and found a few other friends along the way!
